Tis the season for protective styles(sew ins, braids, cornrows...), rod sets, twist outs, twist set todos, and high buns.
In the beauty industry right now protective styles are so trendy. I would say 1 out of 4 women at the Memorial Day BBQ is wearing some type of weave or braided on extensions. BUT where there are pros there are also cons. Pros: Great for most hair types Summer vacations when you may be in and out of inclement weather Using less heat on your hair Growing out your hair Cons: If done to tight they can cause breakage especially in your weak spots around the hairline or crown Cause the hair to mat up if left in for a long period of time Can dry out hair I am currently growing out a bob I cut around Valentines Day and on my second protective style this year. My first protective was a sew in weave I used indian wavy hair although I loved it at first it wasn't as low maintenance as I wanted. I wasn't able to wash and go considering that my hair is curly not wavy so I had to always wear it straight so that means sitting under thee dryer waiting for braids to dry, then blow drying and flat ironing. I took a two week break and now I have box braids. (Yes like poetic justice) The box braids have become so popular especially when you have celebrities like Solange who rocks them faithfully and then Beyonce who rocks hers in a high bun. So far so good! They are not to heavy and mostly I have worn them in a long ponytail or just pulled up. My husband tells me I think they are dreadlocks lol. Happy Memorial Day! Hug a soldier and tell them thanks. For a little hair humor hug a Indian or Brazillian for giving up their hair so you could put it in your hair ✌
